Lets See How Far We've Come

I think it turned ten o'clock but I don't really know,
And I can't remember caring for an hour or so....

OK, no this isn't about Matchbox 20, brilliant as they are.

Kirstiekrafts will celebrate its first Birthday soon (although I can't remember the exact date). And what started out as a way of me sellinIg stuff to my family and friends for pretty much cost, has grown into something more.  I guess this post is in many ways a huge thanks to all the lovely folk that have supported me over the past 18months. Those that helped me regain my creativity, gave me business pointers and were just there. Oh and a big thanks to Mum and Dad for dragging bags of my creations into their places of work and spreading the word.

What else has happened in the past year? Well I got engaged (to a man I will one day officially call Mr Kirstiekrafts), lost over a stone in weight (just another three to go), roasted the first, last and only chicken I will ever roast, took part in two craft fairs, and drastically improved on my ability to take listing photos.

One of the first listings I ever posted has this as its cover photo, and at the time I felt that was perfectly acceptable.
It wasn't until I compared it to the new photos I've been taking I saw the error of my ways, and why things were perhaps slower at the start than they are now. Here's one of the photos I took the other day so you can make the comparison too.
Clearer, brighter and far more readable (its just a shame about the petal in the bottom corner not sitting the right way). Also being taken in natural light probably helps a lot. I was a little shocked at how much things had changed, but also fairly proud of myself. Since I left uni I haven't pushed myself to learn anything new and its rare I actually realise that something's stuck. YAY.

One final note, before I sign off for a wee while, to say a big thanks to everyone that reads this (all five of you). I've created you your own special coupon code for the KIRSTIEKRAFTS Etsy Shop, which is currently choc full of new items. KIRSTIEBLOG15 will get you 15% off if you pop it in the coupon code box at the time of purchase.

*HUGS*

Kirst

Scorchio...

So yeah, the heat...

It has dominated everything recently, Facebook and Twitter, most of the bonding with folks at my new job (**squeeeez**) has been done sitting out in the sun at lunch and its the reason things over here at Kirstiekrafts have been a little thin on the ground. I did drag the crochet out into the garden earlier, but quickly retreated indoors to watch Kill Bill 2 when I realised that it was hotter than Africa (and being a fair skinned, red headed woman I didn't want to make myself too crispy).

The new job is going well too. As much as its taking some getting used to, having a schedule with set times is going really well. Being able to make plans and stick to them is amazing, and I'm hoping in time this will lead to me being able to allocate my time better, which should lead to more crafting.

Second Craft Fair Down

So Yeah...Today was Kirstiekrafts second craft fair (post about the first one here). There's a photo of my half of the stall looking pretty sweet. As you can see, I had the felt flowers out in force, along with some lace ones, memo pegs, tote bags and other bits.
And here's a photo of the other half of the stall, well, full of sweets and looking tasty (yes those are full sample plates at the front). I was, of course, sharing again, with the wonderful Treats by Tam. The woman is a genius in the kitchen and her raspberry and white chocolate blondies (like brownies, but not brown) are to die for. My other half went on to spend a fiver on her cinnamon buns, which are also gorgeous (as are all her cakes). I'm guessing tomorrow may be spent in a sugar coma some where.

The lovely Miss Anna was of course there again, selling her divine soap. Got a new dewberry slice and the other half another keylime, even though the last fair was only two weeks ago and I haven't even opened the pomfig one I got then. If you ever encounter her on any craft fair related travels you could do far worse than to stock up on some of her skin kind and lovely smelling treats.

Even though it wasn't the busiest of events, it was great getting to catch up with some of the lovely folk I met at the last event. I get the feeling as Dundee is a small city, I'll be running into these people again and again, which I couldn't be more glad about. The wonderful Heidi from Rowan Tree Crafts being one of these folk, although her daughter trying to feed me bogey flavoured jelly beans, maybe not so much. She crochets blankets, makes her own soap, candles and bath bombs and can do marvellous things with beads and jewellery wire. One of those great crafty folk hiding away in plain sight.

The general public aren't easy pleased and craft fairs can be stressful. What is it they say?.. You don't have to be mad, but it sure helps..

Forgotten, them remembered, goodies

These showed up on my doorstep a few days ago, I have a huge bag of each. Like I said, fimo obsessed.

New blog

Hey, so umm...yeah. A blog, a Kirstiekraft blog no less, about time.

I'm Kirstie *waves* and have been an obsessed, almost crazed, crafter. I have passion for fabric and felt, an obsession with ribbon, and a day off is spent hunting through charity shops for cute clothes (to destroy for 'arty' purposes) and vintage, retro or cute buttons and beads, also anything terracotta. I love terracotta.

By day I work as a cashier, and run my Etsy shop (here), and by night, I crochet, eat cake and order fimo beads off of Ebay. I have such a big collection of these now, they don't fit in the box...oops. I live in a beautifully unique little cottage, in a beautiful wee town, a few minutes across the Tay Road bridge from Dundee in Scotland.
